Are you a night owl or an early bird?

Are you a night owl or an early bird? Do you prefer to be up til all hours working, or are you the kind of person who wakes up at 5am to start the day?

The beauty of working from home is that you can often set your own hours to fit in with your preference. Neat, huh! But what actually makes us a night owl or an early bird?

The underlying reason is called a circadian rhythm. It's a 24-hour cycle of waxing and waning biological processes, and humans aren't the only ones who have it - most species do, in fact!

In humans, our body temperature can vary over the course of a day. It usually peaks in the afternoon and drops in the early morning. Secretions of the hormone melatonin also crest during the night, for instance.

It turns out there's another group of people though - the "intermediates", who can be quite happy waking up early, or staying up late. The night owls and early birds make up a smaller percentage of the population, and a true early bird is actually quite rare.

Whatever your preference is, it's important to find a lifestyle that suits so that you don't find yourself constantly exhausted and tired at the wrong parts of the day. Working from home is a great way to manage it. Work to your own hours, and your own schedule - whatever is best for you!
